Environmental Pollution and Health Research Team

The leader of the research team on environmental pollution and health is Professor Wu Xiangyang. There are currently 27 teachers, including 6 professors (researchers), 10 associate professors (associate researchers), 5 doctoral supervisors, and 22 master's supervisors. Our team has been awarded the title of Outstanding Graduate Mentor Team at Jiangsu University.


Main research direction:


1. New methods and technologies for analyzing and detecting environmental pollutants


Analytical methods for trace persistent organic pollutants in environmental samples; Preparation of antibodies against new pollutants, new immunoassay techniques and equipment; Preparation, functionalization, and photo/electrochemical methods of nanomaterials for detecting environmental organic pollutants; Research on Microbial Analysis Sensors for Environmental Samples; Heavy metal ion analysis and detection technology; Preparation of molecularly imprinted polymers and their separation/analysis of organic pollutants in environmental samples.


2. Environmental behavior, toxic effects, mechanisms, and risk assessment of new pollutants


Identification and screening of new pollutants, bioaccumulation, metabolism, migration and transformation patterns; Toxicity effects, molecular mechanisms, and ecological health risk assessment of single and compound exposure to new pollutants on model organisms (fish, rats, mice, etc.); The generation mechanism and evaluation method of ecological risks of new pollutants in aquatic ecosystems; Risk assessment of environmental pollution in specific regions; Nutritional intervention and molecular mechanism research on body damage caused by environmental pollutants.


3. Water pollution control technology


Preparation, characterization, and performance research of novel photocatalysts; Advanced oxidation treatment technology for recalcitrant organic pollutants and environmental hormones in aquatic environments; Preparation of new adsorbent materials and their research on removing persistent organic pollutants, environmental hormones, and heavy metals from water bodies; Preparation and application of environmentally friendly nano functional materials; Research on Environmental Microbial Water Treatment and Ecological Restoration Technology.


In recent years, I have led and completed 18 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, over 20 research projects at the provincial and ministerial levels, won 3 provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological achievement awards, obtained over 50 authorized invention patents, and published more than 160 SCI papers. Currently undertaking 1 national key plan project, 11 national natural science foundation projects, and over 10 provincial and ministerial research projects.
