Safety Engineering Major

This major was established in 1984 and is one of the earliest five universities in China to offer undergraduate programs in safety engineering. It is a first-class undergraduate program and a brand characteristic program in Jiangsu Province, and has been certified as an engineering education major. The Emergency Management College (School of Environmental and Safety Engineering) where the major is located is jointly established by the People's Government of Zhenjiang City and Jiangsu University, and is a key construction site for emergency management colleges in Jiangsu Province.


Training objectives: This major aims to cultivate students who can adapt to the needs of social and economic development, have comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor, practice socialist core values, possess humanistic and social science literacy, environmental safety and health concepts, innovative spirit, and international vision, have solid basic knowledge and application abilities in natural sciences and engineering technology, master the basic theories, basic knowledge, and basic skills of safety science and technology, have practical abilities in safety engineering experiments, and can creatively solve complex engineering problems in the field of safety engineering. They can engage in scientific research, technological development, engineering design, risk assessment, supervision and regulation, testing and monitoring, organizational management, accident emergency rescue and other work related to safety, health, and environment in the fields of machinery, electronics, chemical engineering, construction, etc, Engineering, technical, and management talents with the qualifications and abilities of a registered safety engineer.


Cultivation Characteristics: This major mainly cultivates advanced safety technology and management talents for industries such as chemical engineering, machinery, electronics, and construction. Through learning, students will have a solid theoretical foundation in mathematics, mechanics, chemistry, mechanics, electronics, computer science, as well as professional knowledge in safety engineering and management. They will master the general principles of modern safety and engineering techniques and management methods for achieving safety and health. They will have the ability to study the mechanisms and risk analysis of accidents, predict and prevent accidents, and control them. They will also have the skills to engage in safety analysis, evaluation, design, management, and supervision.

Employment situation and trends: As we enter a new era, the people have put forward new requirements for enhancing their sense of social security. The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has made strategic arrangements to promote the modernization of the national security system and capabilities. There is a sustained strong demand for specialized talents in fields such as safety production technology, emergency rescue technology, and disaster prevention and control technology. At present, the main directions for employment in safety engineering are as follows: (1) government, enterprises and institutions engaged in government level safety emergency management work; (2) Engaged in safety management, safety education, occupational disease prevention and control in large, medium and small enterprises; (3) Security intermediary agencies engage in consulting services such as safety production inspections, safety evaluations, and professional technical appraisals for safety production; (4) Various universities engage in educational research work, etc.
