The comprehensive assessment of disciplines is a comprehensive assessment for doctoral students before entering the thesis stage, mainly evaluating their academic ethics, theoretical knowledge, and research abilities. In principle, each doctoral student must participate as scheduled, and exchange students abroad must provide written materials for the thesis proposal, which is not included in the elimination base. If there are uncontrollable reasons that prevent participation, it is allowed to postpone the event for up to six months (advance application is required, and the college will review and summarize it before reporting to the Graduate School for filing).
In order to continuously activate the research and academic atmosphere of doctoral students and comprehensively improve the quality of doctoral training, the assessment process strictly follows the principles of fairness, impartiality, and openness. The comprehensive assessment of disciplines is organized by the college, and the assessment forms include a written test of the comprehensive level of disciplines and an interview with experts.
1. Subject comprehensive level written test
The written test content shall refer to the "Basic Requirements for Doctoral Degree" of this discipline. The doctoral supervisors of the college shall form a doctoral comprehensive level written test proposition group, with each person providing 3 questions, establishing a question bank, and selecting 9 questions as the written test questions. The test questions should cover as much as possible all the professional knowledge and core course content of this first level discipline. Each doctoral student selects 5 questions to answer, with a maximum score of 100 points, and the written test lasts for 2 hours. This part of the score accounts for 20% of the total score.
2. Expert Interview (Proposal)
The college has established a comprehensive interview and assessment team, consisting of 5 experts from the same or similar disciplines (supervisors participating in the assessment of doctoral students must recuse themselves), and has determined a person in charge to preside over the interview work.
At the comprehensive interview site, the doctoral student should give a comprehensive report on the topic of their doctoral thesis, which should be no less than 20 minutes long. The report requires the doctoral student to provide a detailed introduction to the research background, selection basis, research purpose and significance, domestic and international research status, main research content, research plan, key problems to be solved, innovation points, expected goals, and research results already achieved. The interview expert will fill in the interview record on the "Doctoral Discipline Comprehensive Assessment Interview Record Form" based on the content of the doctoral student's report and answer questions, and score it on site. The maximum score is 100 points, and this part of the score accounts for 80% of the total score.
3. Assessment results
The total score of the comprehensive assessment is equal to the written test score multiplied by 20% and the interview score multiplied by 80%, and the ranking is based on the total score. The comprehensive assessment results of the subject are divided into two types: passing and deferred passing, with the proportion of "deferred passing" being 15% of the actual number of participants in the assessment.
For doctoral students who have been postponed, the college suggests that they choose a new assessment date based on specific circumstances. Doctoral students have two opportunities for comprehensive assessment during the semester. Those who pass the first assessment temporarily are allowed to choose another assessment after 6 months. Those who fail both assessments will be expelled.
Before the comprehensive assessment, the college will publicly disclose specific information such as the time, location, assessment format, schedule, and list of doctoral students participating in the subject comprehensive level written test and expert interview online.
After the comprehensive assessment is completed, the college will enter the assessment results of each doctoral student ("Doctoral Student Discipline Comprehensive Assessment Score Sheet") into the "Graduate Student Management Information System", publicize the list of doctoral students who have passed or temporarily passed the assessment on the college website, and report to the Graduate School Training Office.
If there is a dispute over the assessment results, it can be submitted to the Degree Sub Committee of the college for reconsideration.
