Personal experiences
I studied in Beijing Forestry University (Bachelor, 2001), Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Mphil, 2004) and The University of Hong Kong (PhD, 2012). I once worked for The Planning and Designing Institute of Huaihe River Commission and Guangdong Academy of Forestry. Now I serve as a professor in Jiangsu University focusing on the study of environmental microorganisms.
Research areas
N-cycle microorganisms; Rhizospheric microorganisms; Composting microorganisms
We love to study the microbial world in the soils. Particularly, we are interested in characterizing the microbial drivers in the nitrogen and carbon cycles in forest soils. We have investigated the microbial communities of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and archaea (AOA), anaerobic ammonium oxidizing (anammox) bacteria, nitrite/nitrate-dependent anaerobic methane oxidation (n-damo) bacteria and archaea, and more. We are now studying the underlying mechanisms that n-damo bacteria and archaea exist in forest soils in subtropical China.
Our another research direction is rhizospheric microorganisms. We aim to understand how the microorganisms in the rhizosphere mutually react to their plant host and benefit each other. Moreover, we are using composting to deal with tree litters and apply the compost to the crops to observe how the compost affects the rhizospheric microbes and the crops. Through this way, we attempt to find out the mechanisms that the rhizospheric microorganisms facilitate the growth of the plants and defend against the pathogens.
