The School of Environmental and Safety Engineering has doctoral degree authorization points and postdoctoral research stations in the first level discipline of Environmental Science and Engineering, two master's degree authorization points in the first level disciplines of Environmental Science and Engineering and Safety Science and Engineering, as well as a master's degree program in Resource and Environmental Engineering. The college has established six research teams, including Environmental Pollution and Health, Environmental Ecology and Agricultural Environmental Protection, Pollution Control Theory and Technology, Biological Environmental Protection and Agricultural Resource Utilization, Environmental Governance Engineering and Equipment, and Safety Science and Engineering. They have successively led and undertaken multiple national key scientific research projects, such as the National Water Pollution Control Major Science and Technology Special Project, the National "863" Major Key Project, the National Key R&D Program, and the Ministry of Science and Technology International Cooperation Key Project. The discipline of Environmental Science and Engineering is an advantageous discipline and a key discipline in Jiangsu Province. It has been rated B in the discipline evaluation ranking and will be ranked 101-150 globally in the 2023 Soft Science World Class Discipline Ranking; Environmental ecology has entered the top 3.028 ‰ of ESI and has a certain influence both domestically and internationally. The safety engineering discipline will be rated as B+(13th in the country) by Times Higher Education China in 2023. The college also has the Jiangsu Provincial Key Construction Emergency Management College, which shares office space with the School of Environmental and Safety Engineering.

The college currently has institutions such as Jiangsu University Material Energy Research Institute, Jiangsu University Environmental Health and Ecological Security Research Center (Jiangsu University Sponge City Research Institute), and Safety Engineering Technology Center. The college has departments of Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, Emergency Technology and Management, and the Environmental and Safety Engineering Center Laboratory. We have provincial and ministerial level platforms such as Jiangsu New Pollutant Green Prevention and Emergency Safety Engineering Technology Center, China Machinery Industry Federation Key Laboratory of Green Oxidation Technology and Equipment for Water Pollution Control in Machinery Industry, Jiangsu Environmental Science and Engineering Practice Education Center, and Jiangsu Overseas Chinese Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base. The college laboratory covers an area of over 6000 square meters and has equipment worth over 60 million yuan.

The college currently has 161 faculty members, including 143 full-time teachers (including 14 foreign teachers), including 30 professors (researchers) and 58 associate professors (associate researchers). The proportion of those with doctoral degrees has exceeded 97%, and the proportion of those with overseas experience is nearly 50%. We have more than 30 national and provincial-level talents, including Chief Scientist of National Science and Technology Major Projects, Chief Scientist of National Key R&D Program, National Thousand Talents Program, National Youth Talent, Professional Leader of National First Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site, Member of the Education Guidance Committee for Safety Science and Engineering Majors of the Ministry of Education, Global Highly Cited Scientist of SciClone, Outstanding Youth of Jiangsu Province, and Jiangsu Distinguished Professor. The college has 419 undergraduate students, 435 doctoral and master's students of Chinese nationality, and 63 overseas students (57 doctoral students and 6 master's students).

The college adheres to a student-centered and student-centered approach, taking moral education as its fundamental task, promoting the comprehensive development of students' morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor skills, continuously improving the quality of talent cultivation, and making significant progress in innovative talent cultivation. It has won numerous awards in national A-level competitions, achieved a record high admission rate of nearly 40% for postgraduate entrance exams, a nearly 100% employment rate, and has won three consecutive outstanding doctoral dissertations in Jiangsu Province. The college currently offers four undergraduate majors: Environmental Engineering, Environmental Equipment Engineering, Safety Engineering, and Emergency Technology and Management. The majors of Safety Engineering and Environmental Protection Equipment Engineering are one of the earliest universities in China to offer these majors; The Environmental Engineering major is a national first-class undergraduate major construction point, a Jiangsu Province brand major, a Jiangsu Province characteristic major, and a Jiangsu Province key major; The Environmental Protection Equipment Engineering major is a first-class undergraduate major construction point, characteristic major, and key major in Jiangsu Province; The majors of Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, and Environmental Protection Equipment Engineering have all passed the certification of Engineering Education. The "Water Pollution Control Engineering" has been approved as a national first-class undergraduate course.

In recent years, the discipline has undertaken more than 60 national key research and development plans, international cooperation key projects, and the National Natural Science Foundation, as well as more than 100 provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects. It has achieved a batch of innovative results with high level and independent intellectual property rights, authorized more than 130 invention patents, and published more than 700 scientific research papers, including more than 400 papers published in mainstream journals such as Nature Energy, EST, WR, more than 20 ESI highly cited papers, and more than 300 papers in the first district; Published 2 monographs and 2 textbooks (1 key textbook in Jiangsu Province). Received 8 excellent doctoral dissertations and 9 excellent master's dissertations in Jiangsu Province.

The college actively strengthens international cooperation and exchanges with foreign universities, and has established friendly cooperative relationships with Cranfield University in the UK, Washington State University in the US, Changwon University in South Korea, and Mie University in Japan. It has also implemented a joint graduate dual degree (doctoral and master's) program with Cranfield University and received special funding from the China Scholarship Council for rural revitalization talent cultivation.

The college adheres to the principle of putting people first, plays a leading and guaranteeing role in party building, vigorously promotes teacher ethics and conduct, rule of law in the college, and campus culture construction. Party building innovation continues to strengthen, and the faculty party branch of the Environmental Engineering Department has been awarded the first batch of provincial party building work model branch creation units. In the new era, new goals, and new journey, the college will adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, deeply study and implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping to the school, closely focus on the fundamental task of cultivating morality and talents, and firmly follow the connotative development path with discipline construction as the leader, environment ecology safety emergency disciplines as the core, and strengthening characteristics as the lever, striving to build the college into a research-oriented college as soon as possible.
