School of the environment and safety engineering currently holds doctor and Master’s degree program as well as a Post-doctoral Research Station in the areas of Environmental Science and Engineering.

The discipline of Environmental science and engineering is an advantageous discipline and a key discipline in Jiangsu Province. It was ranked in the top 30% in the fourth round of discipline evaluation among Chinese Universities, and in the 2021 Ranking of World-class Disciplines, it ranks 161st in the world.

The school currently has three undergraduate majors: environmental engineering, environmental protection equipment engineering and safety engineering. Among them, the safety engineering and environmental protection equipment engineering are one of the earliest universities in the country to offer such majors; the environmental engineering major is a national first-class undergraduate major, and Jiangsu Province Brand major, special major in Jiangsu Province and key major in Jiangsu Province; environmental protection equipment engineering major is a key major in Jiangsu Province; environmental engineering and safety engineering majors have passed the professional certification of engineering education. The school currently has 131 faculty members, including 113 full-time teachers, including 31 professors and 46 associate professors. The school has 432 undergraduate students, 365 doctoral and master students, including 50 overseas students (42 doctoral students and 8 master students).

The school consists of the Department of Environmental Science, Department of Environmental Engineering, Department of Safety Engineering, Environmental and Safety Engineering Center Laboratory, Biomass Energy Research Institute, Jiangsu University Environmental Health and Ecological Safety Research Institute (Jiangsu University Sponge City Research Institute), Safety Engineering Technology Centers and other institutions. It has Jiangsu Environmental Science and Engineering Practice Education Center, Jiangsu Overseas Chinese Community Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base, and China Machinery Industry Federation Key Laboratory of Green Oxidation Technology and Equipment for Mechanical Industry Water Pollution Control. The laboratory area of the college is more than 6,000 square meters, and the equipment is more than 50 million yuan. After long-term development, the school has established 6 scientific research teams, including environmental pollution and health, environmental ecology and agricultural environmental protection, pollution control theory and technology, biological environmental protection and agricultural resource utilization, environmental governance engineering and equipment, and safety science and engineering. The school has carried out a number of national key and major scientific research projects such as the National Water Pollution Control Major Science and Technology Project, the National "863" Major Key Project, and the Ministry of Science and Technology's International Cooperation Key Project. In the past 5 years, it has been approved for 45 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, more than 100 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, 4 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress awards, more than 100 authorized invention patents, more than 400 papers included in SCI.  

The school actively strengthens international cooperation and exchanges with foreign universities, and has successively established friendly cooperative relations with Cranfield University in the United Kingdom, Changwon National University in South Korea, Washington State University in the United States, University of Waterloo in Canada, Mie University in Japan, Meijo University, and Nagoya Sangyo University , with Cranfield University to implement a joint postgraduate dual-degree program, and received special funding from the China Scholarship Council for rural revitalization talent training.
